Vranov Rock Castle with a View of Malá Skála
The rock castle was founded in 1425 by the Valdštejn family, abandoned in the 16th century, and transformed into a romantic Pantheon in the 19th century. In the forecourt stands a summer house from 1826 in the form of a chapel.
Frýdštejn
A castle partially carved into sandstone rock. The first mention dates back to 1385. From the mid-16th century, the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. The tower's remains are visible from afar and are one of the landmarks of Maloskalsko.
Maloskalská Drábovna Rock Town
This place attracts not only with its mysterious atmosphere but also with beautiful views of the surroundings. The original settlement likely served as a refuge in prehistoric times and was later used in the Middle Ages. Today, you can admire the remains of rock chambers, stairs, and notches that recall the ancient history of this unique place. Maloskalská Drábovna is an ideal destination for nature and history lovers.
Some rock overhangs and caves of Drábovna were inhabited as early as the Neolithic period, i.e., in the 3rd millennium BC, probably by hunters pursuing game, which was surely abundant here at the time, leaving behind weapons, tools, and pottery fragments. You can find Drábovna about 2km above Hotel Skála.
Suché Skály
The sandstone rock massif was uplifted and set in a vertical position during the Alpine-Himalayan orogeny. Due to their shape, Suché Skály are called the Maloskalsko Dolomites. They are popular climbing terrains. The best view of Suché Skály is from the lookout under Sokol or from the village of Líšný.
Rock Labyrinth near Besedice
Hundreds of low towers and boulders are separated by a labyrinth of passages and caves. During times of religious persecution, the Czech Brethren, whose symbol was a chalice, hid here. The group of rocks, inside which there is a prayer room with a carved chalice, quotes from Comenius and the Kralice Bible, is named Kalich.
Boučkův Statek – a Gem of Folk Architecture
Just a few steps from Hotel Skála is Boučkův Statek, one of the most significant monuments of folk architecture in the Bohemian Paradise. This timbered farmhouse from the late 18th century now serves as a museum that acquaints you with the traditional life and culture of this area. In addition to the permanent exhibition, it also offers a gallery and occasional exhibitions. Boučkův Statek is a place where history comes alive, and its visit is an unforgettable experience for all lovers of tradition and history.
Žlutá Plovárna
You can swap hiking for canoes and rafts. You can sail one of the most beautiful sections of the Jizera, which is suitable even for beginners. On the way back, you can rent scooters and return along the cycle path against the flow of the Jizera back to Malá Skála. The route leads through a nature reserve between meadows by the Jizera, where flocks of sheep graze. You will also find several options for refreshments and seating by the river (for example, at Penzion Křížky).
During the holiday months, you can take tourist cycle buses to Kozákov and choose a descent according to various levels of difficulty.
If the weather happens not to be favorable, you can change your plan and visit the gemstone museum in Turnov, or admire glass art in nearby Železný Brod, including trying your own creations under expert supervision.
